The Ghost Squad responded to reports of illegal street racing in Stikland and Bellville South on Friday September 2.
In Stikland, they found that about 100 drag racers and spectators had gathered. Officers arrested two suspects for reckless and negligent driving.
Afterwards, officers responded to a report that 100 drag racers had gathered at Sacs Circle in Bellville South. One suspect was arrested for reckless and negligent driving and 293 fines were issued for various offences.
“I hope that the number of arrests this week sends a strong message to criminals that we will find you and arrest you, as no one is above the law.
“We thank those residents who are working with us to create a safe city by providing tip-offs that assist with our enforcement efforts,” said the City’s mayoral committee member for safety and security; and social services, JP Smith.
